Who we are
About the Cheerful Heart Mission
The Cheerful Heart Mission is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the lives of the underserved people living on the border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. We fund and manage programs focused on health, education, and economic development, and we serve all people in need without regard to race, gender, or religious belief.
The Mission grew out of a single visit when the founding members traveled to the DR and Haiti and saw firsthand the heartbreaking lack of healthcare in the border region. When they asked the local hospital director about the area's greatest need, she answered: “If I could ask you for anything, I would ask you for a dentist.” They returned several times to evaluate the needs of the area, then developed and implemented a plan that fulfilled that request. From that beginning, the work has grown into ongoing programs in health, education, and economic development.
